What is eSamudaay?

  • eSamudaay emerged from a collective vision of creating and building local commerce solutions that would drive inclusive economic growth in India, especially in the non-metro cities and towns.
  • The team aims to build local level entrepreneurship through an ecommerce digital platform that connects small businesses to their customers. The digital platform and targeted mentorship helps you start a digital enterprise in your local community that brings all businesses and customers on a single platform.

What is L-Commerce?

  • LCommerce is a term coined by eSamudaay to signify a company that is optimized to provide e-Commerce and other Digital services for the local area.
  • LCommerce as a concept that directly connects the independent and interdependent groups of producers and consumers across a community and many communities. It is a decentralized way of business where producers and consumers benefit more than middlemen.

Why should you work with eSamudaay?

  • Fulfilling the local needs and then moving to the next area is how India did business. That is, before the large corporations came in and made everything centralized. They bought from everywhere, stored centrally and then distributed it everywhere. This way, the consumer paid more, but the producer got less.
  • It is the dream of the team behind eSamudaay to bring back local commerce to India as we share the belief that Atma Nirbhar Bharat can only become a reality when we become "Vocal for Local."

What is a Circle?

  • The Circle is a term used to describe one local community on eSamudaay. A Circle could encompass a group of people coming together based on an interest or a specific need or even a new business opportunity.

How does the digital platform of eSamudaay operate?

  • This is the Offline-to-Online (O2) model. A group of local retailers with physical stores may decide to use online channels to sell their goods. This online channel is eSamudaay’s digital platform. The digital platform will be owned by a local entrepreneur. The local entrepreneur can then sell these goods across the local community by setting up a delivery support team.

How does this help the local commerce?

  • There are 2 major stakeholders in the local commerce – Sellers (merchants) and consumers. Each of them benefits differently from the taking the local commerce, the digital way.
  • Sellers –
    • Affordable App services -- Imagine if each small business - a kirana store, a vegetable store, a Halwai store or even a clothing store had to invest in creating a digital platform for themselves. So much money spent on so many apps with no clear guarantee that it will boost sales.
    • Reasonable Transaction fee – The ecommerce platform being set up by the local business person ensures lower transaction fees for the sellers since the costs of logistics are reduced.
  • Consumers –
    • Trust – Consumers prefer buying from their trusted sellers especially for the regular needs. The online channel adds the flavour of convenience to the already established trust circle between the sellers and consumers in the locality.

How can one start the local ecommerce business?

  • Any person who wants to start a business in her / his local community can get in touch with eSamudaay through an email addressed to contact@esamudaay.com.
  • The person can become a “Circle Owner (CO)” if he / she wants to own ecommerce business or can partner with us and become a “Circle Promoter (CP)”. Please mail us on the above address to know more

Who decides the prices of the products?

  • All prices of products are decided by the seller. We recommend that the Circle Promoter regularly monitor these prices, compare them with other eCommerce platforms and advise sellers accordingly to be competitive.

How and when will I get paid?

  • When a customer purchases any products in your circle, part of the payment based on the commission rates decided with the seller will be your income.
  • If you are a circle owner, the same would be credited to your account directly. If you are a circle promoter, eSamudaay will settle your and the seller's account in a week’s time.

What is the commission fee and how much commission can I charge from sellers?

  • While the actual commission percentage can be negotiated with each seller, our team will provide you with guidelines about the same at the appropriate time.

What is the listing?

  • Listing a product refers to filling out all the necessary information and adding images of the product so that a customer can make an informed buying decision.

How many products does my seller need to list to start selling?

  • Your seller is required to have a minimum of 10 listings to start selling on eSamudaay.

How do I list my sellers' products on eSamudaay?

  • In a Circle promoter training, we give you a step-by-step process of how to list your sellers products on eSamudaay with the help of Circle Promoter Console. It is important to choose the most suitable category to list your sellers’ products as it will help customers find products faster. Based on the category you choose, you’ll be asked to include product details such as price, weight etc.

Can I help get for development of catalogue (product description, images)?

  • You can create a product catalog using the Circle Promoter Console. You will be trained on how to add images and crisp content while creating the product catalog.

Who takes care of delivery in a Circle?

  • The delivery of the goods is the circle promoter's responsibility unless he/ she has a separate arrangement with the seller/ merchant.

How do I manage my sellers on Circle Promoter Console?

  • Through our Seller Management dashboard, we make it really easy for you to manage your seller orders and see how many orders are received in your circle? How many are pending? etc and Complete details of orders in a day, Weekly, and Monthly.

Does eSamudaay provide packaging material?

  • Not yet and this is in the pipeline to ensure that environmental friendly packaging material is provided to eSamudaay CPs. At this moment, we can guide and connect you with vendors who can deliver the packaging material

What about customer care? Does eSamudaay provide it?

  • It depends on the issue your customer is facing. If it is a technical issue, the eSamudaay tech team will be able to assist you in resolving the issue.
  • Operational issues will have to be managed by you as the business entity is yours and you are the business owner. Of course, our team will always be there to help you, guide you and connect you with the right person to resolve the issue.

Who can become a Circle Promoter?

  • Any person with the legal authority to work in India can become a circle promoter/ owner.
  • We have listed below the circle promoter’s good to have qualities –
    • Has the desire to run or own an ecommerce business.
    • Is conversant with the internet as a medium and the use of apps on their smartphones.
    • Has a desire to help local businesses go digital in order to help them increase sales and thereby create jobs and bring more economic growth to the local community that she / he is serving.

How do I start my Entrepreneurial journey?

  • All you need to do is register yourself on our website or send us an email. The link to register yourself on the website is available right here. You can also write to us at citizen@esamudaay.com and we will register your details.
  • Once you have registered yourself, we will reach out to you in 48 hours.
  • You can then go through a series of videos to understand us better or you can talk to us if you need clarifications.

What business can I onboard in my Circle?

  • Currently, some of the businesses that you can onboard on your Circle include hotels and restaurants, grocery stores, medical stores, meat and poultry, milk and milk products, local kirana stores, local vegetable stores etc.
  • Within a year of launching your own business in the Circle, your LCommerce business will include all aspects of commerce in your town such as buying/selling of Products including Foods, Grocery, Fashion, Electronics, Medicines and Services such as tuitions, Home Services such as plumbers, electricians, accounting services, medical services, hairdressers, beauticians

What support will eSamudaay provide me to start?

  • Once you sign up with eSamudaay, our team will work closely with you to set up the business from the ground up. Some of the support we provide are:
    • Helping the Circle Promoter to set up a new enterprise by identifying the paperwork required for the purpose
    • The Circle Promoter will also get help with documentation that is needed to be done with each of the local business owners and service providers
    • The eSamudaay team will also provide training on using the various apps, including the CP app, the business owner app as well as the customer app.

What is a Circle Promoter Console?

  • Consoles help you in every stage while you’re doing business in a circle, Below are things you can do.
    • Keep track of sellers inventory and update listings from the catalog tab
    • Monitor your seller performance
    • Keep track of your daily sales for all the products of your sellers on eSamudaay.
    • Manage your Sellers subscriptions and send notifications to sellers to remind payment
    • Lead management, where you can manage and add leads, follow up to convert them as sellers in your circle.
    • Marketing tools help you connect with merchants and solve any dispute merchants have.

Is there any payment I make to eSamudaay?

  • eSamudaay charges a flat subscription fee to the circle promoters / owners.
  • The packages start from as low as 1K per month.

How much money do I require to start my business as a Circle Promoter?

  • eSamudaay only charges a subscription fee. The other expense headers are the operational costs, marketing costs and employee salaries.
  • It is entirely up to the circle promoter to decide the investment he/ she is ready to put in his/ her business.

What documents do I require to start the business?

  • PAN Card
  • GSTIN/TIN Number (not mandatory)
  • Bank account and supporting KYC documents (Address Proof)
  • Signed Contract between eSamudaay and Circle Promoter

Can I start the business all on my own? Or do I need more people in my business?

  • Based on our experiences with the existing Circles, eSamudaay believes that it is best to have a small team of three to four people with the same mindset before embarking on an LCommerce business.
  • The circle promoter may need help with following aspects of the business –
    • Marketing – Will take care of speaking with the local businesses and convincing them of the power of digital apps.
    • Finance – Managing the funds, planning the expenditures and ensuring the expenses are in control would be the main finance related tasks.
    • Operations – Managing the deliveries which are the backbone of the business would need a lot of effort.
  • So, overall, we believe having a team of 3-4 people will help setting up and grow the business.

How many sellers should I have to start my business?

  • There is no lower limit on the number of merchants needed to start the business.
  • However, the more merchants you have, the chances of the business becoming profitable early increases exponentially. So more the merrier.

How is the eSamudaay App different from Swiggy or Zomato?

  • Swiggy and Zomato have four major weaknesses:
    • High commission structure – Any lower commission structure will incentivise Restaurants to consider alternatives.
    • Data transparency – Platforms like Swiggy and Zomato hide the customer details from the restaurant. In LCommerce, we make strong Producer-Consumer relationships and this is appreciated by our partners. Given this, all our sellers also actively market the app to their regular customers.
    • Local decision making and support – Most restaurants appreciate a local business supporting them because on many platforms, resolving issues is a time consuming and frustrating experience
    • Lowest pricing – Since LCommerce entities are able to provide the lowest commission structures, restaurants are able to offer competitive pricing to the customers on the eSamudaay LCommerce App

How do I create a delivery network in my Circle?

  • You have a choice of either creating your own delivery network or partnering with another business owner who has the experience and capability for creating and managing a local delivery network.
